Brain
Overview
Cognitive decline is something that everyone worries about as we age. Doing nothing about it does nothing about it. It’s been a privilege for me to work alongside some great brain experts, one of which is Dr. Joe Bates, author of Making Your Brain Hum. He introduced me to the incredible advancements of Neuroplasticity – the brain can heal! The brain can heal from trauma, physical or emotional, if we know how to help it! Just like a muscle can be strengthened, we can also change our minds. I was hooked! I also share workshops sharing the science of how to train your brain for seeing The Good in Life by Dr. Rick Hanson with the H.E.A.L method. Thinking positive is a lie. It’s a nice thing, but nice things are just that…nice, and aren’t always effective to make big changes or gain in life. Most things that make a difference require a lot of effort and being a little uncomfortable to try something new and to stick with it.
This first part of class, BRAIN, we dig into specific movement sequences that our mind learns with repetition and beat while increasing feel-good hormones. Boxing sequences gently increases the heart rate, at your own level, low to higher. It literally FEELS GOOD to the body to learn, mess up, learn and mess up while training the brain to “memorize” sequences. Boxing is a proven method for all abilities and helps fight a wide range of diseases such as Parkinson’s and more. In fact, studies have shown that even attending a class for those not able to move but see the moves and visualize, retain benefits. WOW!
